The strength of a society is in what we choose to carry
This is what civic leadership looks like
My ideal day is Saturday, a day I dedicate to the most meaningful and mission-driven projects. For that reason, I see it not as the end of the week, but the beginning.
And that's exactly what made last Saturday special. I was in Ploiești, working alongside Dragoș Pătraru, a man I have admired since childhood. I used to watch his show on TV with my dad, and now, there I was, sitting at the same table with him.
One thought kept wandering through my mind: ‘As a child, I watched him from a distance. Today, I sit beside him, part of the same purpose.’
I was there to support his new project: Biblioteca Nației, a warm, welcoming space he has opened in Ploiești. It’s the kind of place that feels so profoundly human, you never want to leave.
While others debate what's broken, he builds what's missing
What I‘ve always admired about Dragoș is his directness. He says things as they are, no hiding behind polite silence. And that takes courage, something not all of us have.
But his courage doesn’t stop at words. It shows in the way he lives, in the choices he makes. Again and again, he reinvests his energy, resources, and potential into projects that help people. That's how Teatrul Nației came to life.
A hub that also includes Biblioteca Nației, a restaurant and a coffee shop, all of them staffed by people who’ve faced hardship – at home, at work, in life. Dragoș gave them not just jobs, but second chances. His deep commitment to civic responsibility and his understanding of his role in society make him a truly remarkable person who stands up for those in need.
There are rooms for rest and healing. A space to sleep, a ping-pong table, areas for therapeutic and recreational activities, even massage, all designed because healing doesn’t come only from words, but through feeling supported and being in a place that cares.
Most of us are looking to invest money in expensive things that we don't actually need, collecting objects while the world collects problems. Dragoș chooses differently. He invests in people, in their education, in their growth, in building something that will outlast us all: a legacy rooted in community, knowledge, and care.
For me, it's a huge inspiration what Dragoș, his wife and his team managed to pull into reality. They took nothing and built everything that matters, changing thousands of lives, while doing meaningful work. Hard work for sure, but remarkable work that echoes through generations.
The one who fights for what matters
We live in a time where real truth is rare, and Dragoș is one of the few who still carries it. While many see him as a journalist or TV host, I see something else entirely – he’s the conscience of Romanian media, especially in a time when so many others have lost theirs.
Watching him over the years taught me how to live with integrity which is not just about saying the right things, but about making tough choices every single day. It means facing the issues most people avoid and choosing what's right, even when it’s not popular.
With his show, Starea Nației, Dragoș created a space that gave people a reason to pay attention again, to care about what’s happening and why it matters. He shows us that journalism, at its best, is not entertainment. It’s public service. And that truth, no matter how inconvenient, is still worth fighting for.
The power of Dragoș’ voice is that he makes you feel responsible. Like you can't just sit there consuming content and complaining. He pushes you to read more, listen harder, think deeper, and he won't let you get away with "well, that's just how things are."
I feel that through his work, there’s a quiet but urgent call to each of us: Don’t be passive. Don’t be indifferent. Be awake. Be loud. Be human.
Because if one man, with a mic and a mission, can hold power accountable, what could all of us do, together, if we chose courage instead of settling for mediocrity?
We launch The Thunder Way with a voice that demands change
I can't fully express how grateful I feel right now. Dragoș Pătraru will be speaking at our first major event: The Thunder Way.
Honestly, I couldn't imagine launching this without him. When you're building something that truly matters, you need voices that carry weight. Voices that matter in our society, the ones people trust, respect, and feel genuine. Dragoș is exactly that kind of voice. For me, getting him to join us feels like one of those wild dreams, something that seems impossible until you finally have the courage to ask.
The entire theme of The Thunder Way is about ordinary people. And I know that might sound simple, but that’s the point. We're all just regular people trying to figure things out. That's our starting point, none of us are born special or destined for greatness. What sets some apart is not talent or luck, but choice.
The kind of people who saw something wrong and couldn't just walk away. The ones who witnessed injustice and didn’t wait for someone else to fix it. The ones who took that leap when everyone else was still thinking about it.
That's what this event is about: those moments when ordinary people decide to step up and make a difference. When they stop being bystanders and start being the change they want to see. And having Dragoș on the stage? It's exactly right, because he's living proof of what conviction can do. Of how one voice, honest and unafraid, can shape the narrative for an entire society.
Because sometimes, that’s all it takes…
one voice to remind the rest of us that silence is not an option.
Cris
